Grand Adventure 2

Umm... hello... we are in the midst of a grand adventure... and were going cross country when our path was blocked by a stretch of open water... we are trying to find a way around...

But our way back into the forest is blocked by marshy Skunk Cabbage territory...

With some really big, weird horsetails!

Hmm... the stretch of open water has gotten narrower here...

We think the human can leap that in a single bound... right?

Yes!! We made it across... whew... so relieved.

And then we found the path we had been searching for.

Complete with the board walks... this is a bird watching station...

But the paths are still a bit murky...

We think they should lay out the rest of the boardwalk...

Huh... a bunch of extra bird houses... wonder if they will be using those this year?

ooooh... Salmonberry!

This is one of the bird tracking stations... they have a very fine net that they string between the poles... catch the birds and tag them or track them... or whatever bird people do!

Whoa... wait... do you see that?? They dark thing there in the middle?

It's another deer!

Whew... I wonder if we could volunteer as bird watcher/trackers... Little Fox wants to know if they have chickens coming through.

Ooh... is that a weird snail?

Nope... it's a Sword Fern fiddlehead.

And this is Vanilla Leaf.... spring is such a great time of year for looking at plants.

And over there... we have...

... Wild Red Flowering Currant (Ribes sanguineum for those who are interested). They are beary beautiful with their pink flowers.

Hmmm... a pile of poop...

Deer poop... in a clump. Mostly though...

... deer poop looks like this. Like rabbit poop... except there is way more of it.

It would probably make great fertilizer if you wanted to gather it up... back home, Mama and Gramma used to go out and gather moose poop in the spring (like deer poop except bigger!)... it was THE best fertilizer ever!

Anyhow... we need a rest... this is really a Grand Adventure... where are the snacks?
