A Meadow Hike

Hullo!!! I'm out for a little hike today while Navy Beanie takes a well-deserved rest. He's a bit worn around the edges you know... living rough for so long! Anyhow... I was expecting this meadow to be lush and tall with grasses but... it was mowed about 3 weeks ago!!!

Along the edge, there are still tonnes of yummy blackberries!

This is a pretty little view, isn't it?

This is a favourite dog-walking meadow but there weren't that many out today.

I have to say, it's so much easier to walk here when it's not overgrown with grass! I can actually see where I'm going!

At the far end of the meadow is a super old fence... with cool fence posts.

All covered in lichen and stuff

But just beyond that old fence is a newer fence with electric wires... can you see in the background...

There's cows there!!

I keep hoping that I'll find a way to connect this meadow trail with the little top of the ridge trail we do from the other direction... but so far... no luck.

Maybe next time... this little bear is NOT going to get stapped by standing too close to an electrified fence!

But I will sit here and just soak up the sun for a bit. It's getting cooler at night and the wind was blowing fierce today. But this is a nice sheltered spot. (This was an early September adventure too!)

And in this patch you can see the grass growing back faster... must be a wet spot!

Morning Meadow Hike - Part 2

Hullo! Welcome back... I've been hanging out on this old fence post waiting for you...

I'm sitting in front of an European Hawthorne bush... they have beary pretty flowers in the spring but they are horribly invasive.

 But they still look pretty...

Did I mention it was dewy out?? It is... very...

 OK... so... see those cliffs up there and that dead scraggly tree... I think that if I could get up there and scoot to the right... I could connect up with my other trail that I walk but... how to get up there?

 I tried a few trails into the bush but... they didn't go nowhere!

And this little bear is not scrambling up that cliff.

Oooh... these grasses are cute...

Although they could be a rush or a sedge too...

Yes... beary dewy...

This little bear's boots and jacket are getting wet!

 There's the farm over there that owns the middle meadow that has No Trespassing signs all over it... hmph.

 I tried one more side trail and... it looked a bit promising but...

Nope... although it looks beary cool in a Middle Earth kind of way.

Like there could be trolls or elves living in this limpid green wood!

A Morning Meadow Hike

Good morning, we are off on a meadow hike today! I am trying to find different places to walk for exercise...

 Err... the only thing is... this is a tall-grass meadow!

Ah, that's better... cool!

 The dandelions are all in the puff ball stage but last night there was a lot of dew and... if you look beary closely...

Even closer....

This is what it looks like! Soooo pretty!

It's actually a bit nippy out this morning...

Glad the sun is coming up over the trees...

 There are some side trails off the meadow...

 And if you follow them... watch your step because there's a quite a steep drop-off

Down into the creek! I'm sure the dogs love this place...

I don't think I'll go down there because I might never scramble up again!

And... over there... on the other side of the creek... I could hear some "bah-ing" and...

Do you see them? There are sheep over there!

Cool... and the sun makes cute patterns in the trees...

Sorry? Is my head in the way?

 There's nobody else around at this time of the day...

 But it is beary, beary dewy and someone is getting we feet...

Huh... park boundary...

This is the other side of the farmer's field from where we sometimes go. We've bumped up against the park boundary sign at the far side of the field as well... (See my blog post from a few weeks ago)
