We Went Nettle Picking!

Hullo!! Back in March... we went nettle picking... the stinging nettle variety...

Last year, we were poking around the wildflower patches out here and we found this ginormous patch of nettles... too grown up for us to pick but... we made a mental (and Google Map) note...

No flowers out yet...

But we are almost there...

Just have to tip toe through the murky bits.

Ready? OK... we are going in!

Ta-dah!!!! Nettles, nettles and more nettles!!

And the perfect size too... Did you know... a little bear can touch a stinging nettle... and nothing happens!!! No tingly prickles at all!!!

I can stick my whole face in the nettles... and nothing!

That's one of the less well-known benefits of being a stuffie! Impervious to stinging nettles!

Ooh... I spoke too soon about no flowers... the trillium are out!

We got a good haul... about 3 bags full! Then we are going to blanch them and freeze them...

And... bonus!! We found a deer skull!!! It can join the collection hanging on our shed!

A Different Day at the Beach

I was at the beach again today (I am such a lucky little bear!)

I was scampering along logs and having a great time (like I normally do), when all of a sudden I saw something beary strange.

Do you see it - it looks like some string tied around some sticks. But it's not... oh, most definitely not!

Ugh!!
Double ugh!!! It's all the bits and pieces of a deer! There must be a monster here that eats deer!! I better run!

And hide...

Or maybe here would be better...

But then Mama told me that the deer probably passed away a long time ago, maybe it fell down the beach cliff... so there is no monster here. Whew!! Sometimes beach expeditions can be scary!
