Mail Call!

 Hullo! We received some mail!

First up, a postcard from... Pizza! Errr... Pisa...

It's from our pal, Droopy Dog! Droopy got excited at visiting Pizza too until he realized it was Pisa...

I wonder if that is a common mistake?

"I wonder how many people go to various piazza's in Italy and think there is pizza there too!

And we got an envelope with Halloween stickers... could it be...?

It's a Halloween card from Jerry & Ben!

And a prize for the best costume in Jerry & Ben's Halloween Contest! Thanks guys!!

A Hike through History

A few weeks back we went to the farmer's market in Cedar. That same day (I know... posting delays!)... we went to Morden Colliery Regional Trail. We've been to the old Morden Colliery site before.... Oh... hang on... I have not taken LF there!!!! How is that possible??? Ok... we are going to have to rectify that... and soon!

Anyhow... this is a replica of the pit head at the Morden site... there is a an old rail right-of-way that goes from Morden to where we are now, and then continues to the ocean.

There used to be a bridge for the railway across the river, but there is no bridge now.... so you can't walk from one end to the other. But... there is a nice interpretive display here.

And a map that shows all the coal mining sites all the way up to Cumberland.

Let's seeeee... where are we...

There we are!! See those two orange dots just above, and between, our heads... the lower one is the location of the pithead... and we are at the upper one.

There is talk of building a bridge across the river to connect the two trail bits... but there has been talk for years!

Alright, let's walk!!

I have to say, the fall colours are beary pretty... can you even see LF though?

Fall is his camouflage time!

Beary pretty...

This is Hemer Lake... there are all sorts of trails around here...

It's beary pretty and peaceful here.

It's good to get in a good hike!

We went about 30 minutes down the trail and then turned around to head back to the car. Maybe we'll come back another time and explore farther.

We found some painted rocks on the trail! This looks like a bat...

Cute!

This bank is covered with licorice ferns....

We could get lost in here!

The cottonwoods are so pretty at this time of year.

There were some farms along the way and a few horses.

They didn't come to say hello... we need to keep carrots in our pockets...

Chefs Sandy and Little Fox Bake a Quicke

Hullo! We have guests coming over and... we need to feed them! So we decided to do a quiche.

We have the recipe... it's not that hard.

We are also going to use some special ingredients in our quiche.

First, some Gruyere cheese, because it is soooo flavourful and great in a quiche.

And some salmon!! We have some hot smoked salmon which we will use as a topping...

And then we have some regular tail bits of salmon which we will bake separately so it comes off the skin...

What do you think? We think it will be amazing!

We are also putting in some chopped spinach... cause you do need some pretty greens in there...

We have a gluten free pie shell... no we did not bake this ourselves.

And we have the salmon all ready to go.

And all the other ingredients... let's mix it up!

Don't you feel like you are on a cooking show?

"I feel like this salmon needs to be tasted... multiple times!!"

We are also prepping at topping four spinach salad... candied pecans!

Nuts and sweets... can't go wrong!

They turned out pretty good... maybe we need to taste test them??

Let's go!

And... the quiche are in the oven!

Our gluten free pie crust wasn't quite a deep dish pie shell so we had too much filling... that's OK... we made a little crustless quiche on it's own.

What do you think??? Smells yummy!

Guests voted the quiche and salad a hit! Oh... and we had pumpkin pie too! Yum!
