The Second Discovery!

Hello again... no, this is not the second discovery, although it is kind of cool. Looks like an old Banana bicycle...

No, today's discovery is botanical... we were on the hunt for the elusive Fawn Lily and...

We found a whole meadow of Chocolate Lilies!!

They are usually so hard to spot because they are brown in colour...

But a whole meadow is hard to miss... cool!

And nearby we did find the Fawn Lilies but...

They were already done and gone... ah well.

It's nice and peaceful here...

I'm just going to sit for a bit...

I found this cool old stump...

It'd make a great hiding spot for little bears playing hide'n'seek.

Oooh... caves!

Did anyone bring a flashlight? No, eh? Sigh... no surprise there...

Although it's not really a cave... just an overhang... still cool.

This area gets flooded a lot... and leads over to some farmland.

Hmm... I think those are deer tracks...

And maybe muskrat or beaver?

Dog?

See... farmland... apparently the far end is a park but we've never been there... maybe some day... (coming soon!) Apparently a lot of star gazers go there because it's so dark and you can actually see the Milky Way.... oooh... that would be cool.

And look... all that crud up in the tree....

That's from high water! Glad I wasn't here then.

Oh... and we found another flowering tree...

Ta-dah! It's the Pacfic Dogwood!! This is BC's own official flower.

I think this would make a nice new header pic for my blog...

A Surprise Discovery... actually... Two!

Good morning... we are out for our early morning exercise stroll... Did you hear about the Spanish guy who got a ticket for walking his stuffed dog? Sacrilegious I say!! Stuffies need exercise too you know... Anyhow... we aren't under such a cruel state of emergency sooo... off we go!

Cool... the new sword fern fronds are unfolding themselves...

They look kind of like elephant trunks right now.

Beary cool!

We also came across some wild bleeding hearts...

Spring is full of flowers this year.

And then... this interesting bit of growth... a tree branch growing around the chain link fence... hmmm....

I wonder if that hurts the tree?

Or maybe it heals itself?

Wow, even this bigger tree has grown around it.

You can barely see the chainlink anymore, just the scare on the front... and where it disappears into the side of the tree. I'm guessing that these trees aren't going to make it if the tree comes down!

Oooh... what's that up in the tree just above human eye-height? It looks like a bird nest. Do you think?

I wonder if there are any eggs in it...

I can't quite see... let's get a remote shot with the camera... and....

WHOOPS!! Sorry!!!!!!

Just as we took that pic, the mother robin came back and was chirping madly from a tree, with a worm in her mouth too! We scampered away as she flew ahead of us... I wonder why there's only one little bird in her nest...

That was cool but a really odd location for a nest as there are lots of dog walkers who use this trail and that nest is not very high up the tree at all!

Stay tuned for the second part of our walk discovery!

A Serious Problem...

Hello, Sandy Bear here... wait a sec...

Are we alone?

You sure??

OK... psst... come closer....

I have a serious problem on my hands... brace yourselves... the humans in this household have changed their eating habits... no animal protein at all! This happened in January and... I'm in serious trouble here...

I think I'm going to pass out! I haven't had salmon in weeks!!

Don't believe me?

Look at all these books they have on indefinite loan from the closed public library...

A vegan cookbook, a cookbook by Dr. Michael Greger (How not to Die) and... Forks over Knives cookbook!

Greger promotes whole-foods plant-based eating... and let me tell you, even though salmon is a whole food... it is not on this list!

And the Forks over Knives people...

They are all plant-based too!

And this one... vegan... recipes... oy vey!

Wait... don't some vegans abhore honey???? Ack!!!!

Let me check....

Oh thank goodness... there is still honey in the house... But what's a bear to do?? I mean, I know we are omnivores but... whole-food? Plant-based? Sigh... Any suggestions? Maybe Little Fox's pal, Reindeer has some ideas????
