Another hike...

Wow... and there's another one...

And another one!

Oh hello... I was just noticing that there are a tonne of black slugs out today. That's like #5 and #6 that I've seen so far... We are out on a different hike today searching for the headwaters of a waterfall...

I thought it would be from this water reservoir but...

It is quite bone dry.

I wonder if the waterfall is still running then? Will have to explore...

Going to follow this trail...

And step around the black slugs everywhere...

A fork in the trail... we are going left.

And a salal bush growing in a cedar... cool!

Wait... do you hear it? I hear it!

The waterfall is right over there! Still running... huh...

This may be a mystery for Sherlock Sandy... The Case of the Mysterious Waterfall...

But today we are going to poke along some more trails trying to link up with another one that we know of... and... someone left their full doggie doo doo bag.

I must remember to ask Droopy about this and maybe Little Fox (since he has a dog)... Perhaps he can explain why humans see fit to leave these bags lying around the bush?? Do I look like a Doggy Doo Doo Beary Fairy? We picked it up anyhow and carried it out... hmph....

Oooh... we found a cool overhang here... not quite a cave but still beary neat.

This looks more cavish... but just a deep cleft.

Did you know there are caves on Vancouver Island? I want to go and explore them some time (you have to do a tour)...

Well... that's it for our hike today... we looped back to our starting point and... put the doggie doo doo bag in the garbage. Hmph...

A Tiny Hike

Today we are going on a tiny little hike. This was an old home back in the day and when the owners died, they donated it to the regional district for a park. All that's left here is the foundation of the house.

It looks like they have some fruit trees back there...

And over here is quite a meadow. Apparently they kept a few sheep and cows when they lived here.

There's even a little back-40 area where there is a creek... which is dangerous... cause the banks could collapse.

Huh... these look like hazelnut bushes/trees... will have to come back here in the fall.

And more fruit trees...

This could be a good place for back alley fruit collecting!

The creek is down there somewhere...

Ah, here we go... must be a good place for doggies to splash around.

Well, this is nice... they have mowed a path through the meadow. No soggy boots for this little bear!

OMG... it's a wild columbine!!! Cool... it's the first one I've seen down here on the island...

So pretty...

I think this is a great place to walk dogs but...

Not much to hold the interest of a little bear... still... it's a hike!

Which means I get my post-hike brownie treat! I like this new routine!!

Mystery Mail!

More mail!! This one is from... hmmm... it is beary mysterious...

For one thing... there is something inside the envelope... and it can't be squeeshed...

And then... the return sender is... don't know... but likely a bear!

Although... not sure who... I would tend to think Ajdin but...

This gets more mysterious by the second...

See... it's got a Canadian stamp and... a Ladysmith post mark!! I don't have any stuffy pals in Ladysmith... or Canada for that matter soooo...

What the heck!!??

Ohhh... a cool card. Of a Sasquatch I think...

And... a message from the Ministry of Puzzles!

I KNEW it was Ajdin... hmph... and a super cool pin button!

Do you see? It's got a Canada Goose on it...

It complements other pins I have... one from the USA (Minnesota) and one from the UK (with a cat)! Thanks Minister of Puzzles!!!

Handy Sandy strikes again

Handy Sandy here! Today we are working on a garden project...

This is our garden fountain... the pump died a few weeks ago and we ordered a replacement through Home Depot which took its sweet time arriving...

How is the postal service down in the States? Do things come quickly or do the delivery geese get distracted by shiny things?

Anyhow... here is our pump... the first trick is to get the pump out of its plastic straight jacket... a bit tricky sometimes...

Better let the human do this... they heal faster than stuffies!

And... I am going to supervise from this awesome vantage point... because the fountain bits first need to be cleaned and... stuffies and water do not mix... especially dirty water!

Let's see... cleaning job looks pretty good... now it's a matter of assembling hoses and pumps and...

Voila!!! Fountain, c'est fini! The neighbourhood sparrows and chickadees will be beary happy.... they use the fountain as a bird bath.

Which is fine... except they waste a LOT of water... which means the humans need to be on top of filling up the fountain otherwise the pump runs dry and... well... that's why we needed a new pump!

The birds love the upper basin where the water burbles up... and so we have rocks and sticks in there so they can stand and splash...

And... a mermaid... cause we know a mermaid too!

Yes we do... her name is Rose! Handy Sandy signing off!
