What do with Extra Crab (Such a Problem...)

Oh, hullo... yes... so... we came home with a tonne of extra crab... and so now we wonder... what to do? We made some crab cakes (very yum)... and still had crab so...

We are going to try Crab Caronbara!

Never made any carbonara before... so wish us luck... Chef Sandy has done his research sooo...

We have some chives... fresh from the garden...

And some garlic (from the garden).

And some capers (not from the garden)...

And... we made the sauce (so stressful) and...

It actually worked!! Go figure...

And the crab carbonara was SCRUMPTIOUS!!!

A Crab Feast

Hullo!! We are back on the boat after having lunch on Thetis Island... will our crab traps yield anything? We hope so... cause the prawn traps were a waste of time!

It's getting quite choppy out there...

With a lot of wave spray!!

That's one of the prawn traps after being pulled up... nothing... nada... zippo... not a good spot.

Last time, Scott went out, they had great luck with prawns... not this time. Sigh.

But crabs... OMG... crabs!!!!

We have to measure them all to make sure they are big enough and then make sure we don't take any females... only the males...

That little guy is trying to get away!

Oh wow...

This one is a bit small...

But this one is a good size.

So into the bucket it goes!

These are Dungeness Crabs... there were some Rock Crabs too but they are small and not worth keeping.

So many crabs!

Oh wow... the bucket is filling up! We are limited to how many each person can have... There are 3 fishing licensed people on board so we can have quite a few.

Watch those claws!

Some are trying to get away...

Wow... what a feast!

And then we headed back... going past that famous actress's pier again...

And crossing the 49th parallel...

And now we... sigh... kill the crabs. This was not pretty. Scott basically hacked their undersides in half and then ripped each half off the shell. I could hear crabs screaming in my stuffie mind and...

Errr... Hello, Dory. This is Dory. She is a St. Bernard. Or a Bernese Mountain Dog. Or something. She is a slobber-fest and...

Ummm... do you want some crab? Cause they are over there... and...

Yes... well... note to self... do not let human put this stuffie down, even for a moment...

Cause Dory obviously thinks that this stuffie would taste way better than crab... eek!

The crab massacre is continuing...

This is goin to be a LOT of crab!

Like a lot...

And there are the empty shells.

And then we cooked them up and had a crab feast!!! Sooooooo yummy!!!!

A Day out on a Boat

Hullo!!! We have visitors from Manitoba staying with us... and friends of ours are going out prawning and crabbing today and... we got invited along!!!

That's Scott... He knows what he's doing. We don't...

We are all loaded up with prawn and crab traps...

I wonder if I can drive for a bit?

Hmmm... what did those boaters come back with??

Salmon!!!! They have salmon!!!

Ummm... can I get off and go with those guys... No... I guess not.

Alright... we are going prawning and crabbing... any seafood in a pinch, eh...

This is a crab trap... you can tell because the mesh of the trap is quite wide.

Scott's driving...

And this is the navigation thingie...

Ahoy maties!!! We are off on our adventure!

Ooohh... see that pier... well it belongs to a beary famous actress and... model and... person... can you guess who?

This little bear was getting a bit queasy inside so we are hanging out at the back of the boat...

This is prawn bait... cat food... go figure.

There's a chart here....

That explains how to identify all the different types of salmon!! It's complicated...

Oooh... we are putting out some traps!! It's all about finding the right depth... crab are shallow and prawns are deeper...

We are putting crab traps in first... the bait for that is chicken carcasses and fish tails...

And there goes one! Hopefully we can find them again (that was fun... not)...

This is exciting!!

The nav display can also show "bio-mass" or something on the seafloor and so they were looking at that too...

After putting out some more traps, we came back to the first one to see if it was a good spot. We already had some little crabs!!

And some bigger ones...

Ummm... don't let those little get you... they are nasty!

We put that trap back and then headed off to wait for the traps to do their thing... which meant lunch on Thetis Island!!!

I've never been here...

We are eating at the Thetis Island Pub, just off the dock. Yum!!!

And yes, I'll have a Hoyne's Dark Matter please... yum!

And then a delicious salmon sandwich. Soooo good!!!!
