Grand Adventure 1

Hello... Sandy Bear and Little Fox here... we are off on a Grand Adventure today. It's been a while since either of us have had one... so today we dragged the human along (we might need those long legs and boots!). First... we go down the path... and through the hollow.

Stopping along the way to admire the wild bleeding hearts (Lamprocapnos formosa for those who are interested...). We are going to call this Bleeding Heart Hollow! (Where is Little Fox's flag?? We could use it for claiming all these places for stuffies everywhere.)

Then we went past the rocky knoll... oh look... a cave!

Hmmm... not a beary deep one... and not really a cave either.

It's a tube created by a petrified log... and someone has removed most of the petrified log bit... but there is still some here. We are going to call this the Petrified Log Rocky Knoll...

Here's another petrified log. Maybe we should call this knoll... Double Petrified Log Rocky Knoll??? Maybe not... that is quite a mouthful.

There are also these cute purple flowers...

We looked it up when we got home... It's Collinsia parviflora - Small-flowered Blue-Eyed Mary. What a pretty name.

Then we went by the apple orchard... we will just call this... ummm... Apple Orchard!

Then we came to the bridge... where we left the path for a really narrow little trail..

We are going to call this bridge... Bike Bridge (cause there's a cyclist on it in the photo)...

Then it's under the highway overpasses...

There is a lot of graffiti under the overpasses...

We know a certain mouse who might like some of this!

Meh... not so nice on this side...

And we're out... let's go!

Ohh... tracks... we think these are deer tracks. Our little trail must be a deer trail.

Let's just call it Deer Highway instead.

Whoops... dead end... let's go back.

Deer Highway continues up this way.

See why we brought the human?? Long legs and boots required!

We found some Skunk Cabbage! It's wild flower... I'm trying to show Little Fox some of our local wildflowers... this one isn't all that aromatic though.

Whoa... do you see that!

See what? That big dark blog in the middle of the photo!

It's a deer! Well... what would you expect on Deer Highway?

One of our missions on this Adventure was to gather Stinging Nettles for blanching but... they are waaayyyy too big. They should only be fox height... we missed it by a week or two. Sigh.

But we found a cool horsetail baby...

And we have a lovely view over the bird sanctuary...

We decided to leave Deer Highway and go cross-country...

Oopsies... hmmm... that looks pretty wide (wider even than human legs can jump).

And it goes quite a ways that way... uh-oh...

We could starve out here!! Someone send honey (and chicken!).
