Tasting the Plum Liqueur and Cheering the Hus... er... Ducks...

Soooo... we have a bit of a surprise!!! We are going to open up the plum liqueur jar and see how it turned out!! Yes, I know... we didn't blog about starting it back in early September but... here's the backstory...

EARLY SEPTEMBER

Hullo! So we have a huge bumper crop of Italian Plums off the tree this year. Some years it's meh... this year it's WHOA!

They totally got away on us too but we have this big bowl and what to do with them??

I mean, they look soooo yummy!

But trust me... you can only eat so many of these before your system rebels...

So we are doing to do a liqueur!

We've done blackberry liqueurs which have turned out berry well! And Mama did a chokecherry liqueur when she lived up north... that was to-die-for!

First... we need to cut them in half, take out the pit and then poke holes in the skins...

We have the sugar and vodka in the jar, and are just adding the plums as we process them... this is going to be a LOT of liqueur!

They look yummy, don't they?

Alright... I think we are done... we were following a recipe...

Just need to throw in a stick on cinnamon and seal it up and let it sit in a dark spot for weeks... It's soooo clear but it won't be when we're done with it!

EARLY DECEMBER

Whooooaaa... do you see the colour change??

There's the cinnamon stick!

OK, we are going to pour the jar out through the colander and into a big bowl... ready LF?

Oh wow... those plums aren't purple anymore! What do they taste like??

Well?? They are kind of squishy and... we aren't going to save them...

Right then... now we are going to funnel it into our liqueur bottles...

It's a beary interesting colour...

I wonder why my roommates never make liqueur?? Oh right... Drunk Fox!

Oh wow... it's more of a reddish tone than blackberry liqueur... interesting...

Seee...

And now we have two old maple syrup bottles to fill up... I wonder if we're going to have enough bottles...

Yes we do!!! Barely enough, but we made it. What do you think??

And in the bowl... there's just a bit left...

We need a taste test... of course...

Sandy has a beary fancy crystal shot glass from Scotland...

Just enough for a tot!

It is a beary pretty colour

But there's only enough for one???

Oh... don't worry... we can do a taste test comparison!! Let me go rummage through the cupboard....

Hah!!! Here we go! Not Bailey's... but the Bailey's bottles work really nice...

Oh yeah... very different... alright, let's go and sip these while we watch...

College Football!!

It's the Oregon Ducks and the Washington Huskies...

You know who we are cheering for?? Go Hu.... errrr... Go Ducks!!!

Let's settle in...

LF... why are they called the Ducks??? Should't it be the Oregon Foxes or the Oregon Rivers or something?

"Oh, it's a long story... suffice to say, it's short for Donald Duck cause apparently he met one of the coaches way back when...

Mmmm... I like the blackberry liqueur... it's very smooth!"

Yes, the plum one will need to cure for a bit.... oooohhhh... did you see that catch by MacMillan!!

After Half-Time...

Goooooo Huskieeeeeeeees!!!!!

"NO Sandy!! We are cheering for the Ducks!"

Yes, but that doesn't flow off the tongue as well... Go Duckssssssssss... it sounds like we're in Slytherin!

"Oh phooie... and they are losing anyhow..."

Go Huskieesssssssssssssss....zzzzz (hmmm... sounding Slytherin-y there Sandy)....

Suffice to say, one tot of liqueur each is a bit much for stuffies...
