More Sherlock Mail!

Hullo. I got a most interesting piece of mail last week... Judging from the excellent use of recycling materials, I would guess that it originated with Beanie Mouse... world-famous artist...

See... it's got a sticker for Beanie's Found Art blog...

But... the postage is US Postage... and Beanie lives in the UK... beary mysterious...

Let's see what's inside!

Ohhhh... a Sherlock Sandy puzzle from the Ministry of Puzzles!!! I should go and grab my Sherlock Sandy attire but... it's in the wash (sooo many cases lately!)... Let's see... this puzzle reads...
"If you wanted to drive beary fast in this country, what type of road would you go on?" And then there are 8 spaces...
Hmm... highway? motorway? Nope... There must be more to this... what "country"??

Ah-hah!! The reverse of the card is a map!! Let's examine it more closely...

What do we have here? Erfurt... Jena and Weimar. Well... Mama has a cousin in Weimar soooo that's easy... but let's double check...

At the bottom is Bamberg and Bayreuth... near the top of the Fränkische Schweiz... a really cool caving area near where Mama's auntie lives! And at the very bottom is Pottenstein - there is a cool cave there called the Teufelshöhle (Devil's Cave) into which all sorts of animals fell ages ago, including livestock. The local farmers thought the devil had taken them and when the skeletons were found centuries later... well... it got named the Devil's Cave... And.... it also has skeletons of cave bears and deer oooh....

See... cave bear from the cave...

Anyhow... I think it's pretty clear that this is a map from Germany!

Which means, the answer to the puzzle of a really fast road is... Autobahn!

And... I went to Beanie's Found Art blog and entered in the Greeting Card number and let Beanie know where and when the card was found!

I wonder how far Beanie's cards go? Do you think one has made it to Antarctica?? Or Greenland? Or Iceland?? Hmmm...

Thanks for the puzzle Ministry of Puzzles!

  1. None to Antarctica or Iceland, as far as I know. But they've gone to Australia, and that's quite a long way away.....!

  3. I think we need to befriend an Antarctic stuffy so a Beanie card can make it to that continent
