Hullo! We are off to check on the new stairs down to the waterfall...
This gate is usually locked but they might be doing some thinning of alder trees this weekend.
This sign says that access is closed to the falls but... phooie on that...
We are intrepid adventurers! Let's go!
Another nice sunrise this morning...
And there's the creek below...
Well... they made an effort...
But we are skinny stuffies... let's just squeak around the fencing.
Here's the first pitch of the scramble down...
We see what they've done... they removed all the ropes!! But we are intrepid adventurers and this pitch is fine without a rope... Suffice to say... there are no new stairs here!
Although there is as nice new railing... halfway down... Apparently, as of the writing of this blog (early Oct) they have really and truly started work on the stairs. Paw claws crossed...
And the waterfall is only a trickle... this was in early September before the rains came...
Right then... this leads to the last pitch...
All the ropes are gone here too...
And this is where intrepid adventurers turn into cautious adventurers...
Nice pool... but now we are going to go back up and head further downstream to check out the new bridge...
We know that they got the new bridge in because we saw a news item about it in the summer! They've also put in some wooden stairs...
Whew... there are a lot of stairs... and a rope railing as well. Can you see the bridge?
Oooh.... ahhh... it used to be just a log (between our pairs of ears)... this is much better!
This should last a while! It's 90 feet long and had to be delivered here by helicopter!!! You can see a
short video of it here (scroll down the link page)...
And they even put stairs on the far side too... super duper stairs it looks like. We think that's what the stairs for the falls will look like.
Now we just have to go up our stairs again...
Ugh... 1...
And there were 108 stairs! Which is a lot for a pair of stuffies with short legs.
We noticed a lot of salal on our way back...
The berries apparently make a good jelly but taste pretty meh on their own... beary seedy.
Onwards to the next adventure! P.S.... a certain Distinguished Guest (or two) will be joining us!
Ooh...visitors. The bridge is awesome. They put a new hikers bridge over a busy road a few years ago. So cool.
ReplyDeleteYes, can't wait for the stairs to be built down to the falls too! Will be so much more accessible... albeit less exciting.
DeleteThat's a lot of stairs... hitch a ride in a backpack?
