Handy Sandy and the Painting Project

Mmmmm... let's see... what should we do next...

Oh hello, just reviewing the Human-Do List here... It's quite lengthy.

Do you have a Human-Do List?

I'm working on prioritizing things... buying honey is clearly most important of course...

The trick is to keep the human busy with various things... but not too busy. There still have to be hiking adventures and what not...

It's a fine balancing act... speaking of which.

The double-primed closet is now ready for painting!

This is left over from the basement remediation after the flood... that's a whole other blog post.

Right then... who wants to do the cutting in?

...***an hour goes by*** and the first coat of paint is on! It looks pretty good but...

You can still see a pale sheen of blue shining through in the corners...

So save that roller and paint brush... there'll be another coat in a few hours.

***more hours go by***
And here we are... second coat is done!

Looks much better and the corners are good... I say we are done!

Now we just have to sit and wait for paint to dry so the closet can be repopulated...

Handy Sandy - Tackling the Human-Do list...

Handy Sandy here, trying to maintain calm and prevent the humans from getting cabin fever. The trick is to keep them busy! No lounging around on the sofa eating bon-bons and binge-watching Netflix. Noooo... crack the whip I say!

Anyhow... here we have the last of our deep-coloured closets. I'm not sure what the previous owners of our house thought but... they had colour problems obviously. One closet was deep red... and this one is deep blue. But... today it is getting primed.

First, was spackling and then sanding holes in the walls...

And then it's to prime the walls... we don't want to put 5 coats of paint on there... and still have blue shining through!

Ah-hem... I am ready... Supervisor Sandy says get started!

Oh, that's charming... apparently the previous colour, before blue, was chartreuse... like I said... colour problems.

Ah, there we go... first coat of primer is done... looks better already.

But I think it needs a second coat...

See... second coat done... much better!

Painting is next. How are you keeping your humans occupied these days?

Stuffies and the Virus

Hello, Sandy Bear here, reporting from the West Coast. I hope all my stuffie pals are staying safe out there.

As you can see, I am being safe and wearing a mask. I am just waiting to here if the virus is contagious for stuffies...

And... the word is... No! Virus is not contagious for stuffies! Although we could be carriers... so watch the human-stuffie-human contact. But... this means...

I don't have to wear that horrible mask. Which is good because they are in short supply and should be reserved for health care workers...

Have things gone as crazy where you are? My goodness... the run on toilet paper was ridiculous although it seems to have calmed down now that people realise they can't resell it on Kijiji or Amazon for $$$$. Seriously... humans are soooo strange.

We had bought a big package of toilet paper before the whole TP Craze so... we are good...

Not so well-stocked on hand sanitizer... or flour (that is the latest thing to vanish)... but... wait a minute... How are we doing on honey?????

Let's see... tea, tea, tea... where's the honey?

And... more tea!!! OK... if anyone needs tea... let me know... I'm sure we can spare some.

But where's the honey???

Ah, there it is... nice... I presume there is another stockpile somewhere?

No??? Ummm... Go. Buy. Honey. Now. Seriously... humans are strange...

On another note... we finally sent Grinnell his prize for the Art Deco architecture contest. No... it's not toilet paper. But it is edible. Hope it makes it through the border and all that stuff before it goes stale. No... it's not honey either!

And... now that the humans are all hunkering down up here and practising social distancing and self isolation (no one sick or infected yet)... it's time to get planting! We've already planted some kale and mesclun as well as bush peas. Next up will be parsnips in a few days and then kohlrabi once April hits... Then beets in mid-April... I am trying to make sure the humans are more organized this year.

Seee... mapping it all out. And trying to get them into a crop rotation scheme...

Are you planting anything yet (Little Fox) or is it too early (Jerry & Ben)?

Spring Equinox Hike!

Hullo! I am off on another hike today. It's such a nice day and the snow is mostly melted (mostly)... And just in time, because it's Spring!

So beautiful...

See... mostly melted.

We didn't really get a lot of snow this year. There was some in January but I was away in tropical climes!

Spring is in the air... I can feel it.

Ohhh... I've never noticed this before. This moss is colonizing the bases of these bushes.

It's quite pretty actually.

Although younger bushes aren't colonized yet... Hmmm... I wonder....

This would be a great little botany experiment. How long does it take the moss to colonize these bushes?

See... hardly any moss and...

Crazy shaggy moss!

Or here... even crazier, shaggier moss! Cool...

This area used to be used by the military... there is still an old road here... but from the trees, you can see that it's been a few years since the military left.

Ooh... what's that? A shell casing?

No... just an old fire hydrant.

 Cool...

My friend Little Fox, the Archaeologist might be interested in this.

Even the bigger trees have little moss skirts... and drapes!

I like the green of this moss. It doesn't come out well on photographs but it is sooo... green.

And... our destination... a nice viewpoint to the west. Going to sit and rest for a bit...
