Mystery Object

We went to the beach!

It's so nice down here.

Lots of neat logs to climb.

And my humans even brought a snack! Hummous and veggies... along with fresh tomatoes from the garden.

Bu then... I found this weird thing while I was poking around the logs...

It's this roundish green thing...

What do you think?? Any ideas?

We are all perplexed by it... it's kind of hard...

Mama suggested that I take a bite out of it but... I'm not that silly.

I'm pretty sure we have a pocket knife in here... don't we? No... we don't. Sigh.

Maybe there's something in the first aid kit? Ah yes... there is!

It's Mama's pen knife from when she was a kid... seriously... this is like a little bear sized knife!

I don't wield knives but... Mama took a slice off and... ewwwww... the black bits are full of worms... ick!

But then... there is something else in there!!!

It's a walnut!

Oooh... there must be a walnut tree nearby.... oohhhh....

Over there... somewhere... I better go investigate.

Good thing I went to the arboretum a few weeks back. They had a walnut tree there so I will know what one looks like!

Uh-huh... I think that's a likely candidate.

Let's go check it out.

Yup... those are walnut leaves for sure.

But I only see those green things way up there...

But there are some on the ground!

This is so cool! I am going to gather some up...

There we go... this is a all a big experiment... we'll see how things go with these... how easy they are to peel and stuff.

Cause... the truth is... it's a Black Walnut... and Mama found that out after she peeled a couple dozen of those things at home. Her fingers got died a deep dark brown!! hahahahha!!!

Postcard Mail!

Hello! We received some postcards in the mail today! Or rather... I received postcards! I get more mail than anyone else in the house... and it's always cool mail - like letters, parcels and postcards. No bills for me. Ahhhh... such is the life of a stuffie.

This first one is from Little Fox. He went to Lake Tahoe. I thought he was just in Ohio and Kentucky but... he is a quick one that Little Fox. Did you know you can see 100 feet below the surface in Lake Tahoe? It's a beary clean, cold lake. Nice!

Thanks LF!!

The next one is from Minnesota... Hmmm... I wonder who it could be from?

It's from Jerry and Ben! Of course... they went to a cabin on the lake and had a real holiday. Beary nice. They seem to find really plush stuffy accommodations... their cabin even had stuffie-sized Adirondack chairs. Thanks J & B!

Thanks everyone! I like getting mail... Although I am beary bad at sending mail... it's a sekrebeary thing is all I can say. Sigh.

West Coast Spirit Cat

Well... have you heard of the West Coast Spirit Bear? Those are the Kermode bears from up the coast. They are white/cream coloured Black Bears... not albino... but light-furred. They are called Spirit Bears. Down here... for the last year or so... our neighbour has been... a Spirit Cat!! Wait for it...

Here he comes!!! Tail in the hair (happy kitty) and chirping madly...

Isn't he cute? His name is Felix...

Felix is an absolute snuggle cat... He moved in last year, a few days after we had to put Rascal down... which meant he got a LOT of cuddles from Mama.

Felix loves to be held and purrs madly... I'm too small to hold him though...

He has a harness and a GPS tracker because... he is a bit of a social butterfly and can easily convince unsuspecting neighbours that he is lost and needs a home... or at least food!

His mom also has a tag on his harness that reads... "Felix. Do NOT feed me"...

Soooo sweet... and he drools too... when you cuddle him.

Like that... He also poops in the front flower bed but... we'll trade poop for cuddles any day!

He also loved to go and visit Grampa. He'd stand in front of Grampa's door and convince the home care workers that he needed to be let in...

Who could ignore such beautiful baby blue eyes... (Yes, you're right, this is a love-post to Felix!)

But... a few weeks ago... Felix's mom moved away and took Felix with her. We are all heart-broken...

Hornby Adventures - Tribune Bay

Well, hello again. Today we are at Tribune Bay which is a provincial park. It is... amazing! The back of the beach has a tonne of driftwood and Rose is already at work building another teepee...

The tide is wayyyyyy out there again.

But it is much more interesting than Whaling Station Bay...

Super neat piece of driftwood... looks like a llama with a fancy doo!

Otto and I wondered if Rose wanted help with her building project but she politely declined.

Alright then... what should we do, Otto?

Otto... being an otter... thought we should go down to the water... so let's go!

So we started hiking... and... it's a beary long way away...

Like... I feel like we are in a desert of sand... far away. But Otto is determined.

Along the way we spotted some jellyfish... orange jellyfish...

Which look kind of like space aliens.

Apparently they are called Lion's Mane jellyfish and they can get HUGE. And they sting... even when they're dead... so they are best avoided.

But they sure look weird.

Otto!! Are we there yet?? Not quite. Sigh...

But we're getting closer... that is one determined otter.

Yay!!! We made it!!!

Otto went for a quick dip but even he thought the water was a bit cold yet.

But when he came back, he pointed out the large sand dollar beds in the water. They look black when they are alive... and there was a lot of them.

See... that one is a live one.

But then we both got peckish and... omg... it's a long walk back to our base!

We batted our little stuffie eyelashes and got Mama to carry us back! Humans are useful sometimes you know.

After lunch (no photos - we were too hungry)... we explored along the beach.

Big tree roots...

And weirdly worn sandstone cliffs.

You can't see it too well but the rock is actually overhanging where we are sitting!

Apparently... these holes are caused by salt erosion. The salt from the ocean gets into the sandstone pores and when it dries out, it crystallizes and expands and breaks the individual sand grains away from their neighbours. Huh... fascinating.

We had some beautiful sunsets while we were there.

But the drive home was long... (not because Otto was driving)... but because we had to wait for over an hour for both of the ferries...

So we read...

When we finally got home... we had to repack Rose's gear quickly because she and Otto (and crew) had to fly home. She did get to say hello to our neighbour's cat, Felix. Haven't I introduced you to Felix? Ooops... another post! And yes... Rose is sunburnt on her cheeks!
