Riding a Tiny Ferry

Righto, where are we off to today?

We are walking along the seawall by English Bay, but in the opposite direction from Stanley Park. This is a cool building.

I'm not sure what's going on with my hoodie string... it's not windy today!

Along the seawall we found another example of art deco... it's the English Bay Bathhouse!

It provides changerooms, bathrooms and a lifeguard station. This one was built in 1931.

That's the thing with Vancouver. So many buildings were being built in the 1930s... so there's going to be a lot of art deco kicking around!

As we walked along the seawall we saw many interesting sights...

Like this sailboat washed up on the shore. We actually saw three of them!! It becomes an issue because a lot of them were derelict sail boats moored in the harbour and during a storm they break free... but no one is responsible for them... and so there they sit.

Back during Covid... an empty barge broke free during a storm and washed up along English Bay too... it sat there for months before they figured out a way to get rid of it... It couldn't be towed cause it was jammed up on the rocks, so eventually they cut it apart and loaded it onto another barge... over a year later!

Anyhow... here we are... we are taking one of the False Creek Ferries!

"Ferry" is a bit generous... it's a tiny little boat... well, a whole fleet of them that pootle back and forth across and along False Creek... we are catching the one to Granville Island!

Cool!!

See, there's another one docking from where we just left.

We are going to go under the Burrard Street Bridge... another example of art deco!

That's the Granville Street bridge in the distance... nothing exciting about that one...

And here we are... Granville Island!

It's world-renowned for the market... which has been pretty much unchanged for decades... (ask Mama how she knows this... go ahead... ask...)

They have everything from meat...

To more meat...

And cheeses...

To fruit and veg...

And of course pastries and breads...

Mmm... fudge brownies...

Or maybe these...

Or perhaps... Chocolate Decadence?

So many choices make it hard to decide!

NY Chocolate Cheesecake? Wow... Jerry would love this place!

Granville Island is also home to the Arts Club Theatre!

Granville Island used to be a big industrial site... and there is still a concrete plant here...

Their silos are painted like people!

There are lots of little shops along here... this one has dragons and stuff!

And reminders of its maritime past...

The area across False Creek used to be part of the Expo Lands (Expo 86)... it sure has gotten developed!

We could poke around here for ages but... this little bear is getting hungry!

We are heading over here...

Past the big propeller...

And along here...

Where are we going?

Just a bit farther... to The Keg!!!

We had a super yummy baseball sirloin for dinner (12 oz and the most they can cook it is medium rare cause it's that thick)...  No pictures of it... (sigh)...

Then we tootled back to the hotel... went to sleep and checked out the next morning...

We are catching a bus to Horseshoe Bay... This lady was beary friendly...

Ah, here we are... on the ferry...

That was a great Vancouver adventure... we were only there a few days but it felt like a week!
