Another Garden Update

...mutter... mutter... what am I going to do with all these plums?

Oh... er... hello! I didn't know we were live. I am just mulling over what to do with this crop of wild plums from our little plum tree. I think we might make jam or jelly. What do you think?

As for the rest of the garden. The mystery squash/zucchini plants (they were volunteers) are attracting lots of bees but no fruit yet.

But... one of our red cabbages has firmed up beary nicely! I think it might be ready!

Mmm... red cabbage... shredded and then sauteed with a bit of shredded apple and a whole onion in the middle with cloves stuck in it. Add a bit of sugar and vinegar and, voila.... scrumptious!

There's a baby cucumber coming along nicely.

And a couple of massive ones. We are having a lot of hummus and garlic right now.

This bit old pot held our potato plants.

There were starting to look kind of sad so we dug around in the pot. Well, I supervised while Mama dug around...

Heh-heh... potatoes!!!

A nice beet and potato salad would be quite nice for dinner I think.

  1. Great haul Sandy. Have you ever made Tzatziki before? It's beary easy and uses cucumber and garlic. Do you have any tomatoes in your garden? Ours are going strong. Time to make pasta sauce at our place.

    1. We've been worried that we wouldn't get any because none of the flowers were going to fruit but... now they are... lots of them... tonnes of them. I think we are going to be in trouble soon!

  5. Wow, nice harvest Sandy! Did you spray your plum tree this year? They look beautiful! Maybe you could make a plum coffee cake or plum pie. Our garden just grew weeds this year. We didn't even plant tomatoes. Mom is wishing we did because her limited diet has us buying tomatoes on the vine at least twice a week.

    1. Thanks Buttons! No, but we did have an arborist come in January and give it a trim. It seemed to like that. Sorry to hear about your weedy garden... they are a lot of work, that's for sure! Our tomatoes are ripening right now - they are soooo yummy. And we are getting ready for the onslaught of zucchini coming soon!

  6. We just had too much going on when it was time to plant. My grandma went to heaven the last week of May and we all traveled to New Hampshire for her memorial service and burial. Mom bearly got her flowers planted before we left. Then we had so much rain in June, no chance to plant anything else. Maybe next year, this was our fallow year for the garden beds I guess.
