Garlic in the Garden

Hullo! The rain finally stopped and we got to play in the garden for a bit.

"My goodness," exclaimed  Ben, "your garlic scapes are ready to pick..."

Uh-oh... I think we are going to be put to work!

"Me too," said Jerry, "I am going to do an inspection to see if the bees survived the rain. This is a beary important job you know."

"Hmmmm... looks like the strawberries are almost ready."

"Ooooh!!! I think I see one!... Oh wait... it's a red-painted rock!"

"What the heck??.... Oh wait... Sandy's mom says that these are decoys to fool the vermin. The idea is that they will bite the rocks and learn to leave the strawberries alone. Must make a note of this technique."

"But there are some real strawberries in here too."

"look at that one... mmmmmm..."

"It was beary good!"

"Sandy's garden also has a bunch of red poppies in it... but I don't see any bees yet."

"A beautiful foxglove... Little Fox would like this!

Meanwhile... we get to harvest garlic scapes... ooohhh...

We need a pair of clippers...

And a steady paw... Whew... these sure smell like garlic!

"And then we put them all in this bag," said Ben, "Later we will make garlic scape pesto!"

Catching up with Jerry... "Shhh... be beary beary quiet... do you see it?? On the lettuce???"

"Near my left ear??"

"It's a bee!!! A massive, ginormous bumble bee... On the lettuce!!"

"Isn't it beautiful??? Maybe it's drinking lettuce sap?? I think we need to branch out at home and plant some lettuce!"

"I'll have to make notes to bring home to Papa..."

Rain Weekend - Part 2

Yes, yes... sekrebearial issues have delayed this posting. Mama was coughing her lungs out with a beary nasty cold and apparently couldn't even post for us. Hmph!! Anyhow... here we go. This was from last weekend...

*****
Hullo!! We had a great movie night. The Peanuts movie was beary nice and we are hoping that we can soon which Zootopia... maybe... Spooky joined us half way through the movie so we thought we'd get a group picture... But now what??? It's still raining sooo....

Sylvester decided he would read one of the library books he requested... On Guerilla Gardening! Cool...

"There are some neat ideas in here," he said, "about odd places one can plant flowers to beautify neighbourhoods."

Jerry found a library book too... Victory Gardens for Bees! Are we surprised??? Nooooo....

Although... it would appear Jerry is more interested in the photographs than the actual text! "I am so reading!" grumbled Jerry, "I'm learning what flowers we can plant to attract more beezzz!!"

And that left me and Ben... what to do??? "Well..., " murmured Ben, "I've always wanted to try smores in the microwave...."
Oooohhhh!! Great idea!!!

"I'll get the graham crackers and the chocolate!"

And I'll get the marshmallows....

Have you done this before, Ben?? "No... but it can't be beary hard..."

"And it would be a nice surprise treat for Jerry..."
But does it get messy???
"No idea... it's all a grand experiment!"

"Let's seeeeee..." mused Ben... "we've got all the ingredients... now... "microwave on.... uh-huh... yes... mmm-hmmm.... Beary easy!"

"Now... let's get the marshamallows... HEY!!! The bag is already open!"

"Sandy, did you see anybody??"
Me?? I was watching you!!

"hmmmm... that Hershey's bar looks kind of funny now..."

It's empty!!!

"This is serious!!"
No kidding... that was the only Hershey's bar in the house...
"You know what this means??"

Come on... you all know what this means... This is a case for.... (drum roll please!)

Ben Watson and Sherlock Sandy!! Together at last!

We started with possible culpri... er... witnesses... Sylvester was deep in his book but....

"I hate raw marshmallows," he said.

After a whispered consultation, we decided Sylvester was unlikely to have nipped into the marshmallow bag...

Which leaves us with... Suspec.... errr... Witness #1.... Who is hiding behind his book...

"Jerry.... yoo-hooo.... Jerrrrryyyy...."

"What??" grumbled/mumbled Jerry.... "I'm beary busy right now... I'm making a list of flowers that Papa HAS to get for our garden."

Another whispered consultation.... time to look for some evidence...

Nothing over here... no chocolate crumbs... no marshmallow fragments...

But... "what is this" exclaimed Ben!! "I think I have something Sandy!"

Oooh yes... that is definitely an empty Hershey's wrapper but... there was an empty one of the counter too...

"It wasn't me!" says Jerry, "I was framed!"

"Seriously... I think you guys need to look at the human behind the camera!"

Any thoughts readers??? Was Jerry framed or... is he trying to pin the blame where it doesn't belong??

Rain Weekend - Part 1

Oh dear, oh dear... this past weekend was supposed to be the Great Garden Tour but... it bucketed rain! What are we going to do?? Only Sylvester is dressed for rain...

Jerry - "Me thinks this calls for a movie day!"

Ben - "Ooooh... or the Cooking Channel!"

Or maybe the Hiking Network!

Sylvester - "I like the idea of a movie!"

Alrighty then... a movie it is...  let's see...

Disney's Bears?? Good audience scores...

Or maybe Brother Bear?? Except it got horrible critic reviews...

Oooh... Country Bears... except abominable scores across the board.

Maybe The Fox and Hound?? Little Fox would like that... except he's not here... Droopy would probably approve too!

Or how about The Great Mouse Detective in honour of Beanie Mouse?? And Sherlock Sandy & Ben Watson of course...

My goodness... finding a movie four little bears can agree on is an exercise in patience but then... finally... we saw it... The Peanuts Movie!!! Yes!

Ben - "Wait!!! We're missing something..."
Sigh... there's always one in every crowd...

Ben - "no movie would be complete without popcorn!"

Ben - "I just need a bit of help figuring out your microwave..."

Ben - "Really... 3:20... that seems awfully long..."

Ben - "I hope it doesn't burn..."

Ben - "ooooh... perfect!"

Hurry up Ben!!

Yay... popcorn and a movie (or several)... perfect rain day activity for little bears!
