Hiking Coastal Trails and Tracking down Ice Cream

Hullo! We have arrived in the little fishing community of Princeton.

We are staying at another Airbnb... a cute little cottage.

 With a beautiful ocean view!

It's hard to argue with an ocean view

The bed was comfy too!

And a lovely deck where a little bear can sit and relax and order a refreshing beverage...

My human is becoming quite well-trained...

We then had a little picnic dinner/snack out on the front lawn...

And I saw something weird crawling across the blanket... it looked like a butterfly with no wings, but it crawled up a grass stalk and sat there...

And you could literally see the little wings starting to unfurl!

A little bit bigger every time!

Oooohh... ChatGPT says it's probably a moth... those are the little back wings... and it may be some form of Owlet moth...

We'd have to wait for the front wings to unfurl before we could really ID it...

It kept moving though, and we kept losing track of it, everytime we looked away.

And then we got scared we'd step on it... so we left it to finishing its unfurling in peace!

The next day... we went for a hike!

To a place that my pal Little Fox would appreciate...

Fox Island Trail!!

It was a lovely day for a hike, with broken clouds and some blue sky.

We got a great view as well of one of the bays.

These are typical stunted coastal trees here...

And then we'd pop out onto a headland and get a breathtaking view...

And then continue through low-blueberry bushes (still no berries)...

It's a long way down!!

Every view better than the last.

Gorgeous!!

We found some Labrador tea plants!!

Slowly we came off the main headlands and got closer and closer to the water...

Until we found a beach!

And along the beach, we found tonnes of little silver fish washed up.

We learned that these are Capelin, a type of smelt, and that they come here to spawn along the beaches.

When they are spawning, people raise up the cry and go out into the water with buckets and scoop them up by the hundreds.

Cool!!

We are almost done our hike and coming back to civilization.

It's super pretty here, and the lupines are in full bloom, in an array of colours.

Love the little painted shacks along the wharf!

We then found a spot to stop and have a little lunch... We have a bag of roast chicken bits to supplement the hummus and crackers!

I think this chair is a bit big... even for a human!

We then drove around to the other side of the inlet to a place called Trinity. Which had more lupines

That's it down there... so cute!

Heads-up warning... the humans went a little lupine crazy here...

Right then, let's poke around...

There's a cute little church with headstones back into the 1700s!

And cute little houses, most of which are rented out as Airbnbs. The residents live in regular houses outside of the village core... go figure.

Mama says it doesn't count as a "lupine picture" if there is a house or a bear in it... hmmm...

Well... maybe.

This village could easily be a film location! And actually... The Shipping News (2001) was filmed here, as a stand-in for a village in Maine!

Those headlands behind the lighthouse are the Fox Island Trail we hiked!

... You can see it there too... wait a minute...

These are just more lupine pictures, aren't they????

Stop with the lupine pictures!!!

Yes, they are pretty...

But our gentle readers have seen enough, I'm sure!

Although they haven't seen the tiniest fire hydrant yet!

Ooooh... now we're talking!!!!

Let's go!

Options, options...

I had 2 scoops of nutty chocolate... it was delicious!

And the ice cream shop was up on a hill, so gave a great view over the village. Onwards!
