Maple Sugar Festival

Hullo! We went to the maple sugar festival... or... as they say en français... "Festival du sucre d'érable"!

We've NEVER been... so we decided... this was the year to go. They have live music. This morning was some traditional Quebecois music!

And there were vendors selling all sorts of things. Like bread and baked goods...

And madeleines... which are... basically... sponge cake in a shell-shape. We think Jerry might like these... and maybe Beanie...

There was a table for the local francophone school society.

Maybe Ben should come here and teach French baking??

But the big draw... at least for us... was the Maple Taffy!!!

In Quebec... they actually have snow for this... sigh...

We don't have snow here... so they had to make do but... this isn't quite what I had in mind... Anyhow... they scoop the heated concoction onto "snow"... in a strip...

And then they wait while it congeals and cools...

And while it's still tacky... they put a popsicle stick at one end and roll it up...

It should look something like this... hard and congealed... so you can lick it. The first guy, ahead of us, got one that kind of looked like this...

We got one that looked like this... And I can tell you right now... soft taffy and bear fur do NOT mix!!!!

On the other hand... the Tourtière was amazing!!!

Beary beary delicious...

And outside, there was a guy with a chainsaw making an ice carving!!! They guy who did this was headed to Alaska to compete there too!

We got a program and the reverse was a poster! It was fun!

    1. Tourtiere is a traditional Quebecois meat pie made with ground beef and pork, spices and I think potatoes... and then a crust. Serve it with gravy... mmmmm.... sooooo good!!
