Alrighty... onwards with our tour of Fort Rodd Hill!!
Did you know they have fancy tents set up over there... and that apparently, you can rent them out and stay overnight!!
Alright.... we are on to see the last bit of the fort.
Through the entrance gate...
Apparently Sir Arthur William Currie trained here as a militiaman before going to the First World War. He later took control of the entire Canadian Corps over there... the first and only Canadian to do so (think the Brits always do it)...
Alright, what's in here.
Ooh, a bunk house type thing...
And an area closed due to nesting barn swallows... seriously...
This place is going to the birds!!! (you just knew that was going to happen, didn't you...?)
Looks like there used to be one of those elevator guns there....
It's an amazing view up here...
That's the Fisgard Lighthouse... we'll go there in the next post. It used to be on an island but they built a causeway to it... easier for tourists to manage.
It guards the entrance to Esquimault Harbour which is where the military have shipyards and stuff.
Right then, where to next??
Down here, protected from any enemy gunfire is the engine room for the searchlights... with big fuel tanks... don't want those to get exploded!
Those are pretty big searchlights!
And I imagine the engines would have been beary noisy...
Before we head down to the lighthouse... we have one more stop...
This was the code-breaking room under the main fortress! During the Second World War I think...
That would have been a cool job.
There's also another bunk room...
I wonder how they kept all their stuff dry... it would have rained buckets here in the winter.
Ah well... is that brass thing a spittoon????
