An Abundance of Apples

Hullo blogger pals!! We have friends who have a couple of apple trees and..

They let us have a big bag of them!!

Which means we are going to be making apple sauce!

There are a LOT of apples...

And the first step is to wash them...

And then let the humans core them. We are leaving the peels on because they are organic apples and that's where all the nutrients are.

"And we decided to sit up and out of the way as we supervised because neither Sandy nor I like getting our fur wet!"

Right then... we have 3 pots of apples blipping away...

And a mountain of compost to take out to the bins.

It took a few hours but... we have apple sauce!

"It's super easy too! All you do is cut up the apples, put them in a pot with a bit of water and add a good dose of cinnamon. Doesn't need anything else. My sekrebearies should try this!"

The bigger pots are taking longer so we decided to watch a movie and, of course, needed popcorn. LF is dumping the popcorn in the hot air popper...

"And then we need some butter with the popcorn too..."

That's a good amount. Just 35 seconds in the microwave and it's ready...

"Here come the first pops!"

"Almost there..."

It takes forever to get to this point... but we are patient... we have the salt and melted butter ready to add to the popcorn as it comes out... adding it in layers of course, so it's mixed throughout!

"Here we go!"

And we are ready for the movie! We watched Forgotten Love, a Netflix film, from Poland. It was beary good. They had English dubbing, not subtitles, so it was nice to watch.

***several hours later***
Right... things have moved fast. We have the apple sauce all jarred up and in the pressure canner!

The humans bought this in 2015 and have NEVER used it. So they made a deal that if they didn't use it this year, it was going to get sold. Hence... we are using it. Beary, beary carefully...

First we have to let it vent for 10 minutes... and then we have to wait for the pressure to build.

"It is a long, involved process... but seems to go quicker than the water bath canner."

There is some debate about that. For sure, you can stuff more jars in the pressure canner... like 17 of the pint jar!

"That is beary true... in the water bath canner, it would take forever to do many batches of 6 pint jars!

"Are we at the right pressure yet?"

"Sigh... apparently not... I think we need more popcorn..."

***a while later***
Alright, the pressure canner finally reached 11 psi and we kept it hovering there for the right amount of time and now we just have to wait for it to depressurize...

And... voila!!! Apple sauce out the ying-yang!!!
