More Bears

Hullo... had a delicious lunch in Rupert and now off to explore a bit. Met some relatives...

And found this cool looking totem pole.

Let's see... oh hey! It's called the Grizzly Bear Pole!!

It's a recarve from the original pole that came from the Haida village of Yan on the QCI (now known as Haida Gwaii).

 So... from the bottom up... we have a Grizzly Bear, a supernatural Grizzly with frog in mouth, 2 bear cubs, bear mother and Grizzly with three skils (the rings on top). Cool!

There's a nice view of the harbour from up here as well... Haida Gwaii isn't that far away. One day I want to go there. Mama has been there many times and says it is beary beautiful. one day!

 Oh hey... snack time!!

I have such a cool Gramma who packs snacks all the time!

On the way home, we stopped at a little lake - cause it's pretty cool here.

There is a neat little boardwalk that goes through a muskeg area.

Cool.

The bog has stunted ancient pine trees

It sure is pretty here though.

 Alright... back to the car and onwards.

We had another stop here... This is the estuary of the Mighty Skeena - one of the greatest salmon rivers. It sure is wide here! What a great day trip!

Famished Bear

We left off with a construction site... sigh... I am a famished bear! Will I ever get lunch?

Finally... we are here!!!

Hmmm... Adventure Tours??

Do we look related? I think our ears are similar!

Still hungry though.... and now we are in a Tsunami zone?

Nice murals down here...

A pod of orcas! I think seafood might be on the menu for lunch...

Bingo!!! Let's eat here!

The humans concur...

Choices.. choices... so many choices...

Mama ordered the prawn platter - mmmm...

And Gramma got a shrimp salad...

I... of course... got to nibble off of both plates! After we were done, we wandered around. This place used to be THE place to get seafood in Rupert... but Gramma says it's gone downhill in the last few years. Mph.

 Oooohhhh... fishing boats!!

Do you think they sell salmon? Maybe off the back of the boat...

 It sure looks like it...

 Hmmm... Gramma says we don't need to get salmon... What?? Hmmm... maybe this is too out in the open? You know how we like back alley deals... time will tell!

 Cruise ship!! Have any of my stuffie pals ever done a cruise?? Are they worth it?

So... where to next? What?? What do you mean, "look behind me?"...

Road Trip

Today is a glorious day and... we are going for a little road trip!

Where are we going? Well... we are heading west (and there's not much farther west we can go)... Have an idea of where we are going?

There's nothing between here and there... just lots of forests, mountains and river!

 Up ahead is one of Mama's favourite places along this highway.

 We got out and had a look around...

 Big trees....

And huge trees...

Uh... that's interesting...

Let's see if we can get a right-side up picture!

Hmmm... through the trees.  It's a shear rock face that looks a bit like a mini-Yosemite!

 Hmmm...  it would be cool to see a Kermode Bear...

Oh! There we go! isn't that impressive?

And a big glacial cirque up there...

A wide river (with lots and lots and lots of salmon!).

 Hulloooooo!!!! It's a black bear!!!!

There's a train...  back in the Middle Ages... the highway used to be much narrower and tucked up right against the railway tracks with many crossings of the tracks enroute. It was beary dangerous back then... but then they widened the highway so it's not quite so bad. Still... here is one level crossing along the way.

OK... I'm ready for this road trip to be over... Construction too???? Good grief!! I'm going to starve before we get there!
