Off to Mexico!

Woohoo!! I am off on a holiday! First we had to take a ferry to Vancouver (dropping off Daisy the dog along the way). And then... can you imagine... we had to leave for the airport at 2:30 am!! Ugh... At least there was hardly any traffic on the roads.

And nobody at the airport either! We had to wait until 3 am and then we would be able to check in...

Time for a bit of breakfast...

And then I got tucked away in to the backpack so we could go through security...

It was Chinese New Year the day before so... there was lots of Chinese decorations everywhere.

Our flight is listed! We are going to Puerto Vallarta...

Another fearsome dragon!

But this bear looks way more friendly!

I am the departure gate... the first one here! Do you think I'm excited to go?

I am also beary tired though... time for a nap.

The flight was not super exciting. I thought I saw Mount Rainier go by below our wings. Little Fox is down there somewhere...

The resort I am going to is an all-inclusive so the ground transportation was provided... It is nice and warm down here.

There are lots of buses leaving for various places... I can't wait to get to our resort!

Because I am sooooo tired....  time for a rest!

A Hike!

I got to go for a hike again! To a new place, which is always fun to explore. I always get a picture of the map to consult later...

Daisy was along for the walk as well...

This is the river (duh)... but in the fall it is full of salmon and the eagles come here to hang out! That would be cool... have to make a note to come here again next year...

The weather turned wet on us about half way through the walk... sigh... this is a bench with a rain shelter for little bears (which I think was beary thoughtful of the builders). Mama says it's just a mid-bench table for people to have a picnic on.... but I doubt that. It was perfectly made for little bears! So... with the rain... and me without my raincoat... it was into the backpack for me... phooie!

Competing Attentions

Well... I've finally figured out why Mama has been sooooo busy and why getting out on an adventure is a major production. She's working on a book... Uh-huh... a book. Now I ask you, which is more important, a book or a little bear???

These are some of her reference books... I think she needs to balance all this book-writing stuff with outings for a little bear!

And what about my book??? Eh? Hmmm... ***image of pouting bear with arms crossed, head turned to the side and nose lifted in the air***.... hmph!

A Trip to Watership Down

I got to go for a hike one morning... or a walk... but for a little bear any walk is like a hike! It was frosty out which makes for pretty photos...

This little bramble leaves looked beary cute.

Daisy was still visiting us at that point...

I found this sign lying on the ground... hmmm....

That doesn't sound good!! But Mama says it just blew off a truck from the highway so.. Ok...

Doesn't the frost look pretty on the grasses? That's an apple orchard behind me... they make apple cider, which is supposed to be super yummy...

Hey!! Do you see that?? I was walking across a bridge and there was this funny thing sticking out of a tree....

Heh-heh... it was a raccoon! Isn't he cute! He was more concerned about Daisy I think... I don't know if they have them in Europe although I do recall hearing that a few escaped from a zoo in Germany and were terrorizing the neighbourhood. In German, these little guys are called a Waschbär... can you translate that?? It means Wash Bear! I guess because they look like little bears (???with that tail??) and they wash their food...

I sat by the stream and relaxed for a bit in the sun... quiet time is important for little bears.

See the pretty icicles on the grasses... it was a coolish morning for sure.

And the sun was pretty through the trees as well.

A bit farther on, I saw a spot of white in a huge bramble/blackberry patch. Can you figure out what that is? Me either...

Turns out it was a rabbit!

And it wasn't the only one... there are tonnes of rabbits in this one area... they look like domesticated rabbits so someone probably released some and now... well... they're breeding like rabbits!

I wanted to go and explore in the bramble patch to say "hello"... but Mama said the brambles are pretty nasty and my new hoodie might get thrashed... and if I got stuck in there, well... who was going to come and rescue me?

Ah well... I am calling this area Watership Down cause of the book... It's nice to name different places with a name that means something... and Watership Down sounds much better than "the rabbit place"...

A Foggy Day for Sealions

Hullo! The weather cooperated (sort of) and the fog and cloud finally cleared off. What is that bright thing up in the sky?? I got to go on a hike!

As we got close to the water, I could hear barking... it was kind of weird for dogs and it wasn't! It ended up being sealions sunbathing on log-booms...

You can see them here....

It was a gorgeous sunny day... ahhhh... spring is here!

I spoke too soon about the fog though...

It does make pretty patterns with the sun through the trees.

There's an eagle over there on the other side of the channel...

Can you see him??? He's going to deliver a message to Little Fox and then to Jerry & Ben! Oh... wait... maybe not... he just flew away!

Oh well... It was nice out here anyhow.

Oh the sun looks so pretty through the trees!

But then... then we got to a clearing and... oh... Mama just went nuts with the camera and I had to scramble after her telling her to wait up!

She likes doing weird sunshine shots...

And sometimes you just have to humour her... although I limited her to three pictures here (otherwise there would have been 10!).

Oh... and we got a short video of the sealions barking... (And it wasn't Daisy!) I was quite far away and you can still hear them quite clearly...

A Holiday?

Ummm... clearly I am not getting the memos in this household! Apparently, while I wasn't paying attention, someone booked a flight to Mexico! For a week... yay!! I quickly scrambled around and found some beach-ware and dug out my Mexican som-bear-o from a couple of years ago...

Last time we went, I only had one outfit (can you believe it??)... and well... see the photos for yourself. As many of my blogger pals commented... I was vastly overdressed for Mexico! But... I am now a bear with a well-stocked closet and I even have choices for my sun-wardrobe... As for where we are going...

Last time we went to the Yucatan but this time we are going just north of Puerto Vallarta, on the Pacific coast... ooohhh... ahhh... must pack some honey (they don't have a lot down there!).

A Blast of Snow and Cold from the Past

Hullo! I've been reading about all the nasty snow and cold out east and dug through my photo archives to see if I had some photos that I could share... just so you don't think I'm a complete wussy bear now that I live on the balmy west coast...

There's this photo from a big snow storm I experienced in Calgary a few years ago. That blog on my nose was one big snow clump!! My fur got a bit unfluffy after that experience!

Oh... and as for cold... there's this one of Mama from a few years ago (before I was borned)... It was -37C and the steam from her breath froze on her balaclava (not baklava which is a Greek dessert) and eyelashes! That must have been beary super cold!
