A Beary Old School

Good morning - blink, blink. Sandy Bear reporting from the pre-dawn gloom of an old school. Blink.. blink... We are here waiting for the sun to come up.

It is coming... soon. We have driven by this place many times and Mama thought it might be cool to get some dawn pictures... let's see if it works.

 Alright! Sun's up!

This school has been closed for at least 10 years. They were talking to turning it into a community centre but... nothing has been done and it is quite bad inside apparently. The school was built in 1914 - which is beary old for western Canada!

It must have been quite impressive in its day.

Now, it is just beary sad looking...

The grass still gets mowed... sometimes.

But many of the windows are boarded up because...

Kids think it's fun to throw rocks to try and break them.

The garbage cans look like they have fresh bags in them...

So maybe the kids who throw stones are encouraged to throw their garbage in the cans?

Old pictures of the school didn't have such elaborate exterior fire escapes...

See... this is what it looked like in the olden days apparently....

I don't think that little boy from 1914 would have done this to his shoes!

It would be neat to go inside and have a look... but no such luck.

Now, nobody uses the stairs except some spiders...

And it's not just the building that is abandoned... even the swingsets have lost their swings.

Although I suppose you could still climb the monkey bars...

There'll a little too big for a little bear though.

 But make a nice frame...

We found this flower growing in the grass and have absolutely no idea what it is... any thoughts?

And that's all for now. Hope you enjoyed the tour!

  1. I think you should "sneak" in someday and take some pictures. Interestingly, I think the school looks in pretty good shape for being over 100 years old (at least in the front picture). The monkey bars look like they could use a little straightening up.

    1. I think they sure turn it into condos for stuffies (and maybe their humans). But apparently there is a lot of water damage from the roof not being maintained.

    2. That could be a beary big problem, roofs are kind-of important.

  2. Great reporting job Sandy. It is a shame the building can't be repurposed. Maybe a retirement home for older stuffies!

    1. Exactly!! Condos for stuffies... it is only a block and a bit from a Starbucks...

    2. Oh gosh, how perfect. It could be the base of the new stuffies TV network, with Sherlock Sandy mysteries, Jerry's show, travels with Little Fox, and of course classes led by uncle Tibbs.

    3. That would be amazing! There was another building that used to be the gymnasium (the city is using that building for community meetings)... so that would make a great meeting place! Ohhh... the possibilities!

    4. I think Jerry and Ben are onto something about the base for the stuffy channel. I hear a lot of movies are filmed in BC so that seems like a perfect fit for the building. Do you think the CBC will mind the competition?

    1. I'd want a stuffie partner to scout for trouble... you know how unreliable sekrebearies are for stuff like that! We'd need a group of ninja stuffies to try it!

    1. Oh, and I thunk abandonned schools are so sad if they don't change it into homes or room for small shops/company's there always should be children around, laughing and playing together! But I agree it's a good place for taking pictures, Harr would want to go inside too:-)!
