West Coast Adventure

Road Trip!!! Oh boy, oh boy!!! It's been sooooo long since we went on a good road trip... but today is the day. Naturally, I am co-pilot and navigator...

Stop the car!!!!

Alright... hot chocolate in paw... we can go now!

Heh-heh... we are taking a back-road route to the West Coast... not the Tofino-Ucluelet coast that everyone knows but the Port Renfrew-Sooke coast that is less well-known. And...

We are going along the old logging road route that cuts down to Port Renfrew... it's paved now...

But there is still active logging on some side roads. Mama and her truck both got all misty eyed cause they used to work in areas like this up north...

There were some deep, dark old growth forests too...

With a few massive trees!

This one is big... it's called the Harris Creek Spruce... it is 82 metres tall and 100s of years old...

We stopped at one bridge along the way...as you can see... it's built like a logging bridge and the edge is only knee-high! Not for the dizzy or faint of heart!

But down below is this beautiful creek - Harris Creek!

No salmon though...

Are you dizzy yet??

We found a cute little lake with a wooden dock... Lizard Lake... not a cute name!

And another one called Fairy Lake... we think Rose would like this name! There are "rustic" campgrounds at both places (=bring your own water and pack out your garbage, but not your pooh).

Whew... to be continued!!

  1. Great adventure! Glad you didn't have to pack out your own poo. :)

  2. Road Trip. Those are two of my favorite words. Are you going to the areas of the Island that have lots of bears? I can't wait to see where you go next.

    1. The plan is to see as much of the island as we can... we'll see how it goes.

  3. I was a little nervous when you were peering over the edge of the bridge! Better hold onto your hat tightly when you do that!

    1. Better hold tight to everything! It was a bit nerve-wracking. The things I do for the "photo-ops".

  4. Wow, we could make a great Stuffie Club treehouse in that huge tree! We'd have a little rope ladder and pull it up, you know, to keep out the prying eyes of seKretaries.

    1. Sounds like a great idea! And we could lower down a little bucket that they could fill with honey jars...
