Another Brush Fire

Hullo again... Yep... a report from another brush fire location. This one happened on July 4 and we are now visiting it three months later... just to check up on things. This one was a super scary fire and came right up to the fences of people's yard. Again... likely caused by a homeless camp.

There is a little pond here, which is beary pretty.

This arbutus tree managed to keep a few leaves up at the top.

But this poplars look pretty crispy... until...

You look down at the base!!! Do you see that? They are putting out new shoots... and there are all sorts of little green plants coming up.

Even the blackberries are putting out new shoots. It is beary hard to keep a good blackberry plant down!

The grass here is quite tall already...

And even some of the hawthorne bushes that look pretty dead are putting out new leaves along the branches.

Although... I did find some victims of the fire... R.I.P. little snails.

There are some bigger trees that didn't fare so well...

But everywhere else... I see new greens coming up.

Even some little oak trees! Nature is a pretty magnificent thing!

  1. Nature is pretty resilient isn't it? If fire can't stop blackberries, what can????

    1. It is super resilient! I don't think anything can stop blackberries... we keep digging up invaders in our backyard, but I could see how if we didn't do that... our house would end up looking like Sleeping Beauty's castle!

    2. Maybe you should look into renting a few goats to take care of the blackberries. Renting goats is a popular fad (are there any unpopular fads???) in my state.

    3. Oh, they are used up here too in logging cut blocks and stuff. I'm not sure they rent out for parks...

  4. It does look kind of dry where you are. We've had a rainy August, so our fall weather, which normally also looks quite dry, is very green and more like early summer! Strange for us, but hopefully that means spectacular fall colors.

    1. Yeah, we've had a nice September too - a bit of rains early in the month to give everything new life. I even saw some wild crocuses in a ditch! Our crocuses always put leaves out in August (silly things) but never flowers. We don't get much in the way of fall colours although I have seen a few leaves that look pretty.
