Mystery Squash

Hullo again! It's me and Rascal... err... It's Rascal and I... hanging around in the garden. A couple of months ago, we had some "accidental" squash pop-up all over the garden beds - probably seeds that went through the compost.

We moved them all to one bed and ... well... they are taking over the world. They have been putting out flowers for a few weeks but no fruit...

Until now! That is a baby zucchini we think...

And this might be another one... apparently pollen from the male flowers needs to get over to the female flower to actually turn these things into fruit. So complicated. Unless, of course, you have bees... bees do the pollinating all on their own.

And another, even tinier one.

I think we are going to be over-run by zucchini soon...

Tomatoes are coming along nicely too...

And this is our basil bed. Basil makes a great pesto you know...

Let's see... what else... you yes... I supervised under-the-deck clean-up... which involved rooting out a club-house/lair of the Chinese Triad Rat Gang. Now there is nothing for them to hide under... much better. It was a tough fight...

But we found a small army of helpers under there...

    1. Once we are sure what it is! We're not sure it actually is zucchini. It could be a mystery hybrid too... it looks weird.

    1. You can make pancakes out of Zookeyknees? I hope Chef Ben posts a recipe sometime soon.

    3. There's also Zookeyknee bread... The zookeyknee pancakes would probably be excellent with a blackberry syrup, don't you think?
