Garden Update

Hullo... I thought I'd give a quick garden update. First up, some flowers. We planted some sweet peas in March.. a lot of sweet peas. And they are all blooming! They smell so wonderful.

This is our monster hydrangea out front.
It has these huge pink blossoms... but if you put bark mulch on them (cedar or fir - which is acidic)...

The blossoms will turn purple and blue!

Kind of magical...

Now... back in early May, I gave a status update on our carrots...

And the beets...

Today I am happy to report that one row of beets has been completely harvested! There were some monsters in there. We had been thinning the row over time, and I guess it worked. The carrots are still working on getting bigger.

This is the beet row... I told Mama to pull the three smaller ones as well. That way, we have an empty row and can plant something else! Not sure what yet... but the garden gurus say that we could plant more beets or carrots... maybe even some bush beans.

Speaking of bush beans... they are coming along nicely...

And we are picking peas as well...

Mmmm... fresh peas from the garden, sweet and delicious.

And the lettuce has just gone crazy...

The red cabbages are coming along nicely although the aphids have found them...

Finally, here we have a cucumber!!!

Mmmm... fresh cucumber from the garden... yum!!!

As for carrots... ummm... well... we plan to eat them I think. They are beary carroty, not like the carrots in the store. I like them dipped in hummous!

    1. We've been eating yummy salads for weeks it seems. Heartily sick of leafy greens! We make a balsamic mustard sauce... I must suggest adding a dollop of honey.

  4. Your garden looks great Sandy! Do you ever slice the cucumbers and dip them in humus as a snack? We also like them in our sandwiches.

  5. Nice job Sandy! Our lettuce didn't grow very well this year. Yours looks great though. I think you should plant onions in the empty row.

    1. Oh yes... we've had lettuce coming out the ying-yang! It started as mesculan and kept getting away on us. We kept giving it haircuts and it kept coming back. But I think it's finally done now. Mind you, our kale is getting chomped no by aphids... bad year for them.
