Happy Halloween!

Today I am finally getting around to carving my pumpkin and getting my costume together... I hope Mama has some bright ideas for costumes because I am drawing a blank! This year we bought a pumpkin carving book... it comes with pumpkin scalpels and patterns.

Let's see... which one should I do?

Eh?? A pumpkin top almost landed in my lap!! I better see what is going on...

Hmmm... this is a beary full pumpkin and a messy job.

Finally all the pumpkin guts are out... now... to get creative.

I found the good side of the pumpkin and... hmmm... that shadow looks like it might make a cool pattern! But Mama said I did a bear themed pumpkin last year so I have to do something different... sigh.

Alright... I've picked out my pattern and taped it to the pumpkin.

Now I have to take this little pokey wheel thing and run it along the lines... That is hard work!

Now we start cutting... and that was even harder work... Mama and I were sweating bullets that we were going to cut out an important part...

But we managed it!! Spooky doesn't like pumpkins it seems...

But she is a Halloween cat so... maybe she can help me come up with a costume idea because Mama and I are out of ideas.

Two years ago, I was a beary spooky mummy!

Last year I was a beary spooky space invader from the planet Bearspaw...

But what about this year!! Ohhhh... Spooky help me out!!

And she did!!! I got a wild and crazy idea...

No peeking!!!

Ta-dahhhh!!!!! Spooky looks a little shocked but... She was the inspiration for this costume.

And it turns out I did a good pumpkin for this costume as well!! And Mama had a little tealight holder...

The trick-or-treat pumpkin was empty but... a little honey packet fixed that.

I think it works...

Rascal wasn't too impressed that I didn't use her for inspiration, but let's face it...

Halloween IS Spooky's season!

And in the dark...

Heading Home

The day before we headed home from Gramma's, I got to got out for another hike! There was another sign that said "Bear in the Area. Use Caution". How did they know I was coming???

I don't see any bears... other than Yours Truly.

It is beautiful out here...

The horsetails were out and looked beary cute with the sun shining through them.

The river is a bit low...

Which means we can walk through some of the side channels...

And look for rocks!! There are all sorts of rocks in this river - blue, green purple, red, grey, striped and speckled... Mama would say igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary but... I like my classification better.

Mama is looking for a particular kind of river rock... so I will let her look while I admire the fall leaves.

Ahhh... she has found a rock... it is purple with green bits inside. She says it's a volcanic porphyry...

When we got home, Gramma was getting dinner ready...

I wonder... could it be???

Yes!!! Salmon steaks!!! Have I mentioned what a beary great Gramma I have?

Yummm... rice... with carrots and peas (from the garden) and salmon... yumm!

It was great to visit Gramma and have so many adventures...

The Cutting of the Bread

Well... when we got back to Gramma's from PG, we had 5 loaves of massive bread. Unsliced. Cause Gramma likes to slice it herself.

Ummm...

I... er... think I have somewhere else to be right now!

Like... blogging... or something!

Oohhh... you mean Gramma has a real bread slicer... whew!!! I can help with that...

First you cut off the end bit...

Which is a perfect size for a little bear sandwich.

Then you get ready... cause this is going to take a while.

And... we're off!!! The slicing is beary noisy but goes pretty quickly.

It sure makes a lot of crumbs...

Which get gathered to feed to the birds...

Wow... that is a lot of bread... and we had to stop halfway through the first loaf to give the machine a chance to cool down.

Gramma took the opportunity to have a snack...

Now we just have to bag up the bread and put it in the freezer.

It looks like half a loaf is about one bear tall...

There we go... some sliced bread! All done!!! ....
Oh right... there are 4 more loaves to go... sigh...
