The Cutting of the Bread

Well... when we got back to Gramma's from PG, we had 5 loaves of massive bread. Unsliced. Cause Gramma likes to slice it herself.

Ummm...

I... er... think I have somewhere else to be right now!

Like... blogging... or something!

Oohhh... you mean Gramma has a real bread slicer... whew!!! I can help with that...

First you cut off the end bit...

Which is a perfect size for a little bear sandwich.

Then you get ready... cause this is going to take a while.

And... we're off!!! The slicing is beary noisy but goes pretty quickly.

It sure makes a lot of crumbs...

Which get gathered to feed to the birds...

Wow... that is a lot of bread... and we had to stop halfway through the first loaf to give the machine a chance to cool down.

Gramma took the opportunity to have a snack...

Now we just have to bag up the bread and put it in the freezer.

It looks like half a loaf is about one bear tall...

There we go... some sliced bread! All done!!! ....
Oh right... there are 4 more loaves to go... sigh...

  1. That bread would sure be good for honey and peanut butter sandwiches! What a great idea to save the crumbs for the birds...we're doing to do that!

      Did you get to put any Nutella on the bread? I don't know if Nutella and Rye go together but it might be fun to try.

    2. Gramma is pretty smart!! And I think rye bread crumbs are healthier than white bread crumbs!

    3. No Nutella on the bread... I'm sure it would do in a pinch but Nutella really needs to be eaten on fresh, warm white bread or buns... mmmmmm... drool... yum!!!

  2. Yummie! We'd like to taste that :-)! Does your mom like to make a very big slice, like G. does? Not a normal one, about a centimeter big, but two or sometimes three:-)? You should see her face with a big slice like that:-). Specialy when we have a white bread sometimes and then with real butter and chocolate sprinkles!!!

    1. Oh yes... with white bread and Nutella!!! That would scrumptious. Gramma likes to have thin slices of rye bread with lots of butter... but she's not supposed to because of high cholesterol... She says she was butter-deprived during the war!

    1. Oh yes... honey on smoked salmon!! I would call it Honey Glazed Smoked Salmon on Rye... I think it would push Pastrami on Rye to the sidelines!

  4. Those are some beary lucky birds who get the rye bread crumbs. I haven't seen any Canadian Aviary Visitors yet....they should be visiting soon.
