A Break in the Rain

Hullo bears and not-a-bears (of which there are now quite a few!). I did not get out much on the weekend (i.e. not at all) due to the rain but... in a momentary lull in the downpour, I did get some pics of some new happenings in the garden.

I helped supervise (from inside) the construction of a second pallet-compost bin.

The new one now holds the "recent" stuff...

And the old one holds the "good" stuff! There sure are a lot of worms at work down there. I know that this will be beary good for the garden.

Speaking of which... remember the rock garden project from last week.... well, it is coming along nicely. The pathway is done (it looks unlevel - but it's just that first landscape tie). And there are some plants on the slope - more work yet to be done. On the right side of the pathway, we are going to plant raspberries!!

These ones that Mama got from someone who was selling off some babies (not real babies... raspberry babies).

And since raspberries do best when they have support, this contraption is going to have wire strung along the sides to give them something to be tied to... it is like a monkey bar except not...

And finally... I have been prodding these humans to wash their hands outside and not bring all that dirt inside! Soooo... this dual utility sink/laundry tub is going to become part of the potting bench/produce washing/hand rinsing station. I think it will eventually look like...

This!!!

Or maybe... this!!!

I think both of these possibilities are definitely lacking a Bear-Supervision station, particularly as there is water involved - need to have somewhere where I can perch and not get wet or dirty...

  1. Looks good, I like all the different areas for you to manage in the garden. You have the rock garden to supervise, the compost area, the cleanup station. I think you need to hire some apprentices to help you supervise. Also, I think you need some sort of chair to make supervision more comfortable for you and special area for you to meditate and ponder your thoughts (such as how many hikes is a good amount for a bear each week, how much honey should I donate to the bear animal shelter, where can I get a bear claw pastry like Ajdin had etc.). .

  2. Thanks Little Fox - I agree, I need to find a nice central place in the yard where I can supervise all of the activities - maybe on a rotating platform with a nice comfy chair... and an umbrella to keep the sun from giving me a headache and some ice cold lemonade... or maybe iced chocolate...

    1. Surely "someone in your house" must be out in the garden by now?? Or have you gotten spring snowstorms like other places on the prairies/plains?

  4. Those drinks sound beary good. If I happen to come across a megaphone I will send it up your way. That might help you supervise easier from your rotating platform.

    1. Now that is an excellent idea! I don't want to strain my voice... I wonder if I could use a rolled up piece of paper as a megaphone? I'd be like a movie director!

    1. Oh, yes, we watch a lot of HGTV here too. Although our favourite show at the moment is Rehab Addict which is filmed in Minneapolis and Detroit. The host takes old houses and restores them using "old" stuff. We have been using a lot of "old" things in our garden as well, stuff that was here already - it is beary satisfying.
