A Forest Hike

I got to go for a hike on the weekend... the weather was beautiful and it was a crisp morning.

I like hiking in the forest because the paths are so nice and spongy soft. And bears love the forest of course!

These are some weird plants I am keeping an eye on. I have no idea what they are (any ideas Little Fox?)... so I am waiting until they do something - like make flowers.

The sun was shining through the trees, which makes for nice photos - this is a bracken fern just starting to unfurl.

Like Adjin, I like to sometimes sit and do nothing... it is hard though with a Mama like mine!

More ferns - sword ferns this time - they are so pretty.

We are going on a different trail this time - and I think these plants are lamb's ears... but not sure.

It is a beautiful trail, beary cool and quiet - with some ferns and skunk cabbage in a pool of water.

That is the thing when you get up this early - you can have the forest all to yourself.

Another moment to just sit and listen to the birds chirp.

This old stump had a hat made of salal bushes... it looks like it might house a hobbit or something.

Oooh... a flower!!! A yellow violet - beary nice.

This is a beary long hike - for a little bear and I needed to take several rest stops.

But Mama was patient with me because while I was resting she got to take more photos.

I thought I might see some ducks here but... not a single one to be found - or they were being beary quiet sitting on their nests!

Ok... so this is a local shrub, a pink currant - and I want to get one for my garden! It is super cute and would look beary pretty and... attract bees!

A bee was sniffing around these flowers just moments before this photo was taken - so I think it is a good bee-attractor.

This is another cute flower - I had to look this one up - it is called the Pacific Bleeding Heart - beary cute.

I like exploring the forest and finding new things. I am an Adventuring Bear you know!

Ohhh... and finally.. to wrap it all off... a Dragon!!! Do you see it???

  1. Sandy, that looks like it was a great hike. I love that photo of the lake....so peaceful! I didn't get hiking last weekend....Argggg I am going through withdraw (I should take a lesson from Ajdin and learn to relax).

I don't know what the flower is...I need to "encourage" my roommates to get a flower identification book so I can be a more informed fox.

    1. Oh, it was a great hike! You really must put your foot down with your roommates - about more hikes and a plant book. I made Mama flip through her plant book and we eventually found that mystery plant! It's called Vanilla Leaf - it has a strong vanilla smell! It was used by First Nations as an insect repellant and you can also dry it and use it as an air freshener. I would think you guys would have it down there too - keep your eyes open on your next hike!

  2. Wonderful hike and photos Sandy! It's also true, we have to put our foot down when it comes to those seKretaries!

    1. Thanks guys. Us little bears need bigger feet I think! Some sekrebearies are becoming immune to foot-stomping!

    2. Well Sandy, we find a stern look, kind of like Paddington Bear gives, works very well. Or, sometimes sad eyes...no seKretary can resist sad eyes. If you find other techniques, do let us know!

    3. Oh... sad eyes... I can do sad eyes!! I will sit in front of her and practice my soulful, woeful look.

    4. We predict it will work like magic...honey and hot chocolate daily!

    5. It would help if I could generate a few tears that threaten to spill down my furry little cheeks. Haven't managed that though!

    6. That would be a beary good idea. Jerry suggests having a pal give you a good pinch, that might produce a couple of big tears, and who could possible resist a little bear with tears! If that doesn't work, you can always go on strike. A little protest with hand made signs might also work.

    7. At this point I think I need to get the weather to cooperate too... why are humans so leary of going hiking in the pouring rain??

    8. Well, we must admit, we're not fans of hiking in the rain either...rainy days are good when one of the seKretaries reads us a story, or makes popcorn and puts on an old movie, or helps us with a craft project.

    9. I agree about the weather, humans can be so picky about having good weather. Just put on a jacket is my little fox philosphy......too bad my roommates don't always agree with it.

    10. @ Jerry and Ben; a strike now that's a good idea. Do you have any suggestions on what to write on the little hand made signs?

  3. Sad eyes, I will have to give that a try. Maybe I can convince my roommates to take me on two outings this weekend.....

    1. Two outings!!! Whoa... that would be exciting. I think you can do sad eyes - practicing in front of a mirror or drunk fox might work too...

    2. That's a good idea. I have a lot of luck with guilting my roommates into outtings and adventures. I will have to practice the sad eyes in front of Drunk Fox, he is good at giving feedback

    3. Well it looks like you got at least one adventure this weekend and no rain either. Your lupines are way farther along than ours!
