A Rickety Bridge

We got to go for an outing!! Yay!!! It's taken a while... partly weather issues. Sebastian is most disappointed in the weather, he thought he was coming to the land of fluffy, white snow, so the rain is not what he expected!

Today we are going to the Kinsol Trestle... that is short for the King Solomon Mines Trestle...

Sebastian was a bit concerned that there was a shooting range close by...

But there was also a sign saying "No Hunting"... so hopefully little bears are safe!

At least this little wooden bear is safe!

As we started walking, I noticed a bear funny contraption attached to some maple trees... do you know what it is?

It's a maple syrup operation!! These are called Bigleaf Maples (because their leaves can get up to 24" across)... and you can tap them for syrup in January and February... who knew??  One website said:
"Our western maple syrup has more flavour that its eastern cousin. While good on pancakes, it excels for use in cooking baked beans, many deserts and as a glaze for vegetables, ham, ribs and fish. Other favourites include over ice cream and fruit and as an ingredient in salad dressings." Are there any little bears or foxes or mice or hamsters who are drooling right now?

Ah-hah!! Finally, the trestle... Mama says it was closed for a while because they were reinforcing it...

Whooooaaaaa.... The Kinsol Trestle is apparently the longest wooden trestle in Canada (all the others are gone)... It is beary impressive...

That's me and Sebastian!

Ohhh... don't look down... it is a long way down...

And yes... we are going to go across that...

And over this creek...

Whew, we made it to the other side where we met a wooden rocking horse called... Kinsol...

He actually does rock back and forth!

I took this picture for Beanie...

Well, that was a cool expedition... the railway that used to go over this trestle isn't there anymore, but the railway bed is not a trail that is part of the Trans Canada Trail. It would be great for riding bikes!

    4. And there are more of them... this bear is 10-11" tall (more my size) and he has a uniform! Although his price tag is a bit outrageous...

    5. That uniform is BEARY nice, but we agree, the price is sure high. Jerry says he could make you a similar uniform out of paper, string, honey glue and crayons..... Ben, however, is not convinced.

  2. Have you thought about biking the trans-canada trail? Maybe if you took a trip in the Winter Sebastian could finally see some snow? I hope you two were beary careful on the trestle it looked beary steep. Were they giving out free samples of Maple syrup? I am jealous, my roommates didn't take me out this weekend. They committed to a hike next weekend though.

    1. Oh, that would be beary cool... I could ride in the bike basket! So far snow is scarce here... even the ski hill on the island hasn't opened up yet - apparently we've had a "dry" winter... uh-huh...

No free samples of maple syrup, although I was tempted to open one of the buckets to have a peek. But I guess it wouldn't taste like much.

You hold your roommates to their commitment... a promise is a promise!

  3. oooh maple syrup! Did you get to sample any? I do love honey but I also love a good maple syrup, especially over a nice tall stack of fluffy warm pancakes and fresh strawberries and blueberries and maybe some sausages on the side and a nice large glass of fresh squeezed orange juice...

  4. Um, Sandy, we need to make a complaint to your seKretary: there has not been a Sandy post in over a week...Ben is a little concerned, and Jerry is thinks you're not getting enough honey and therefore you're out of energy and just sitting on the couch watching tv... We sometimes have the same problem with our seKretary, so we do understand!
